Orientation

The day is coming soon.. the first day of school is coming up on Monday.. but the kids had an Orientation on Friday at 8:00am to meet their teachers and their classmates.  I was so nervous!!  Luckily I pulled a string or two and made sure my kids had someone they knew in their classes to ease them into the new school transition..and how hilarious was it when they both knew a couple kids in their classes!  Erianna's first boyfriend was in her class, too!!  I didn't know these kid's were even coming to this school, so we were both so surprised to see so many familiar faces!  This is going to be a great year!! :)

Switching Gears

So... not too often do I post about myself on here.. but WOW things have changed so I have to!!

The first part of 2011 I was heavily contemplating about my goals in life, and where I saw myself in five years.....so I had to get there... the faster the better...  This was all thanks to my friend Victoria Duke who spoke at the New You class at Academy of Glam in January See blog about that here--so... on June 3rd, I closed the daycare, and had the most amazing summer with my kids..

I applied for an administrative professional position on May 27th, See blog about that here..   I played a serious game of be patient and wait...and on July 14th, as we were leaving Sanibel Island, the principal of the new school called me to see if I was still interested in the receptionist position I had applied for?  I was kind of bummed... a receptionist...really?? me??? no... I need more to do than that.. I need to be really busy, and I really don't want to pick up phones all day..

Well, while I was in England he hired for the Admin position, but wanted to talk to me about the Receptionist position...and since my children had gotten into the school, I decided I would do it for the time being until I get my teaching certificate...  So I went in and talked to the Asst. Principal and the Principal, and we sealed the deal on the job.. I told him I would do it, but I think he knew I wanted to do more.. Well about a week later he called me and told me there was a new position, and he thought I would be a good match for it.  The pay was 40% more, and I just had to get my teaching certificate......by next week.. So one long week of MAJOR cramming went by.... and I started work as a teacher on Monday, but the test on Tuesday would mean one of two things..

--I pass it, awesome... I continue the training as a teacher..
--I don't pass it.. ummm... maybe I could sell water on the street corners outside the school..because they filled the receptionist position!

PHEW.. I passed it.. Not sure how I scored, but I passed it.. and I was official.  Less than two months ago I closed my daycare, and had not a clue in the world as how things would progress...but I did it.. I did it because I wanted to be more of a Mom.  Being a mom is the most important thing to me, and being in the daycare business, I felt so bad for all these kids who were in daycare almost ten hours a day, 52 weeks a year.. That was NOT going to be my kids.  I wanted to find a job where I could get out of work at a decent time, and be off when they are  off.  Welcome to the world of teaching :)  10 month work year, 10 federal holidays, 8 Vacation/Sick days... umm PERFECT.  Time to enjoy my kids, and make a difference in the lives of many, many others!!

BTW- My school is a Charter School. It may pay a little bit less than the Public schools, but from what I have learnt so far, it is a GREAT company to work for, and people don't get fired, or transferred to schools they don't want to work at...  they get PROMOTED! :)
